The ancient Persian fire-jumping ritual of renewal is performed as Winter ends and the New Year begins with the Spring Equinox.
On the eve of the last wednesday of the year, we light the fire and leap over the flames, chanting “Zardi e man az toh, Sorkhi e toh az man.” (My yellowness on to you, Your redness on to me.)
